Dark Oak Kitchen Transformed in Penwortham, Preston highlights a remarkable renovation that showcases the power of expert craftsmanship and a thoughtful color palette. JS Decor undertook this project, successfully revitalizing a dated, dark oak kitchen into a bright and contemporary space. This transformation demonstrates how a kitchen can be significantly altered without resorting to a complete and costly replacement.

The Initial Challenge: Overcoming Dark Oak’s Dominance
The original kitchen was characterised by its heavy, dark oak cabinetry, a style that, while robust, often creates a sense of enclosure and diminishes the perception of space. In this Penwortham home, the dark wood absorbed natural light, resulting in a dim and somewhat cramped atmosphere. The homeowners desired a lighter, more inviting kitchen, but preferred to retain the existing cabinetry due to its sturdy construction. This presented a challenge that required a skillful and meticulous approach.
The Transformation Process: Doors and Drawers
JS Decor began by removing all the doors and drawer fronts, transporting them to our workshop for specialised treatment. The first step involved a thorough cleaning to remove any grease, grime, or old finishes, ensuring a clean and receptive surface for the new paint. Following this, two coats of high-quality primer were applied. This crucial step provided a strong foundation for the topcoat, ensuring proper adhesion and a smooth, even finish. Finally, two coats of an extremely durable topcoat were applied. This topcoat was specifically chosen for its resilience, guaranteeing that the kitchen’s new finish would withstand the daily wear and tear of a busy household.
The Frame’s Makeover: “Elephant’s Breath” and Lightness
While the doors and drawers were being treated in the workshop, JS Decor addressed the kitchen frame on-site. The frame was meticulously prepared, ensuring all surfaces were clean and ready for painting. The chosen colour, “Elephant’s Breath,” a sophisticated and subtle grey, was selected to brighten the space and create a modern aesthetic. Two coats of this elegant shade were applied, transforming the frame and contributing significantly to the kitchen’s newfound lightness. The chosen colour gave a great contrast, while still remaining neutral.

The Final Outcome: A Bright and Modern Kitchen
The combination of the workshop-treated doors and drawers and the on-site painted frame resulted in a stunning transformation. The dark oak kitchen, once heavy and imposing, was now bright, modern, and inviting. The “Elephant’s Breath” frame, paired with the freshly painted doors and drawers, created a cohesive and stylish space.
