Lake District kitchen envy; a stunning transformation born amidst the fells. Imagine trading the bustling cityscapes of Canada for the tranquil beauty of the Lake District, only to find your beloved home feeling a bit… “woody.” This was the case for our recent clients in Ings, near Windermere. After years of letting their property, they were eager to reclaim their kitchen and infuse it with a fresh perspective. Enter JS Decor, armed with brushes, a passion for colour, and a knack for transforming space.

The Challenge: Taming the Timber
The existing kitchen, while structurally sound, was overwhelmed by its abundance of wood. Dark cabinets and a traditional layout created a somewhat heavy and dated atmosphere. Our clients craved a brighter, more contemporary feel that would complement their lifestyle and the stunning natural surroundings. They desired a space that felt both welcoming and sophisticated, a place where they could truly settle back into Lakeland life.
We Prepared the cabinets thoroughly & meticulously as we always do. After this we methodically apply two coats of high adhesion primer. Followed by two coats of a hardwearing waterborne coating designed for kitchens & furniture.
The Solution: A Hand-Painted Symphony in Colour
After a thorough consultation, where we listened carefully to our clients’ vision, JS Decor presented a solution that would bring their dreams to life: a hand-painted kitchen makeover. To showcase the transformative power of paint, we presented a flawlessly painted sample door, instantly captivating our clients and instilling confidence in our expertise.
The chosen colour palette was a harmonious blend of classic and contemporary, inspired by the surrounding landscape. The dresser, Island & base units a focal point in the kitchen, was transformed into a masterpiece of contrasting hues. “Charleston Gray,” a deep, sophisticated grey, anchors the piece, while “Dead Salmon,” a warm and inviting pink, adds a touch of playful personality. The remaining kitchen units were enveloped in the calming embrace of “London Stone,” a versatile neutral that complements the bolder colours and creates a sense of spaciousness.
The Transformation: A Picture of Perfection

The “after” photos speak for themselves.
The kitchen is now bathed in light, the carefully chosen colours creating a sense of depth and dimension. The hand-painted finish adds a touch of bespoke elegance, highlighting the craftsmanship and attention to detail that defines JS Decor’s work. The once-dominant wood tones now play a supporting role, allowing the vibrant colours to take centre stage.

Beyond the Brushstrokes: The Finishing Touches.
The transformation extended beyond the artistry of paint. We collaborated with our clients to select exquisite new hardware from Alexander & Wilkes, supplied by our partners at Slingers Hardware. These carefully curated details, from elegant handles to sleek knobs, enhance the kitchen’s functionality and elevate its aesthetic appeal. (And remember, JS Decor clients enjoy a 25% discount on all new hardware from Slingers Hardware!)

More Than Just a Makeover: A New Beginning
This project was more than just a kitchen makeover; it was about creating a space that truly reflected our clients’ new chapter in the Lake District. By combining their vision with our expertise, we transformed a dated and “woody” kitchen into a haven of light, colour, and personality.
