Just before Christmas, amidst the festive rush and twinkling lights, We were busy working on this Eastham kitchen magic in the Wirral. This wasn’t about hanging stockings or decking the halls, but about transforming a dated, vinyl-wrapped kitchen into a bright and modern space ready for the holidays and beyond. This project, however, presented a unique challenge: the existing vinyl wrap was lifting and peeling in places, demanding a more intensive approach.

The orangey-brown vinyl wrap on the cabinets felt heavy and dated, and the peeling sections were an eyesore, while the satin nickel handles did little to lift the overall aesthetic.
Farrow & Ball Jitney: The Perfect Colour Choice
The key to this transformation was Farrow & Ball’s “Jitney,” a beautifully warm and earthy neutral with subtle grey undertones. This versatile shade works beautifully in both traditional and contemporary kitchens, offering a sense of calm and sophistication. To ensure durability and a flawless finish, we used Tikkurila’s top-of-the-line paint in the DS 25 range, expertly colour-matched to Jitney.
Vinyl Removal and Preparation
Before any painting could commence, we had to address the problematic vinyl. Our team meticulously removed the loose and peeling vinyl from the cabinet doors and drawer fronts using a heat gun. This was a delicate process, requiring patience and precision to avoid damaging the underlying surfaces. Once the old vinyl was removed, we prepped the surfaces to ensure a smooth and even base for the new paint. This involved removing the old glue, sanding, and priming to guarantee optimal adhesion and a flawless finish.
Expert Spray Finish in Our Workshop
To achieve a truly professional and durable finish, we opted for a spray painting technique. However, we don’t spray in your home! We carefully remove the doors and drawers and transport them to our dedicated workshop. This allows us to create a controlled environment, free from dust and other contaminants, ensuring a perfect finish every time. We apply multiple coats of the Tikkurila paint, allowing each layer to dry thoroughly before the next. This meticulous process results in a factory-like finish that is both beautiful and long-lasting.
New Kitchen Handles for a Modern Touch
With the cabinets beautifully transformed, it was time to add the finishing touches. We replaced the dated satin nickel handles with sleek, black satin ones. This seemingly small change made a big impact, adding a touch of contemporary elegance and creating a striking contrast against the warm Jitney cabinets. The new handles instantly elevated the kitchen’s style, giving it a modern and sophisticated feel.

The final result? A stunning transformation! The kitchen was bathed in light, the Jitney colour creating a welcoming and spacious feel. The black handles popped against the neutral backdrop, adding a touch of drama and sophistication.
